QUICK ANSWER

The names describe different constructions, not a universal ranking. An overhead line design must establish the electrical and mechanical requirements before purchasing a conductor.

01Read the construction

AAC is an all-aluminium conductor, AAAC uses aluminium alloy, and ACSR combines aluminium strands with a steel reinforcement. A similar outside diameter or nominal size does not establish equivalent resistance, mass or strength. Ask suppliers to identify the standard, stranding and conductor data for the exact proposed size.

02Bring the route into the comparison

The design review also needs span arrangements, terrain, wind, ice, corrosion exposure and sag constraints. A conductor selected for one route is not automatically suitable for another. Do not accept a single generic maximum-span claim as a replacement for line calculations.

03Buy the complete interface

Include fittings, joints, drum lengths and installation handling in the RFQ. Request a written deviation list if an alternative construction is offered. The project designer should approve the substitution before a price advantage becomes an order.

Before you send an enquiry

  • State the conductor standard and size
  • Provide route and loading requirements
  • Confirm matching fittings
  • Approve substitutions in writing
