QUICK ANSWER

A solar plant uses several cable duties. Build the schedule from the single-line diagram and equipment interfaces instead of treating every route as solar DC cable.

01Draw the boundary of each circuit

Start at the module strings and follow the design through collection equipment, inverters, transformers and the grid interface. Label each section as DC or AC and record its voltage and termination points. The exact arrangement depends on the plant architecture.

02Do not let a category replace a specification

PV string cable, an AC feeder and a higher-voltage collection cable have different design contexts. For each line item record conductor material, size, core count, screening or armour requirements, and installation method. Add communication and control cabling as separate lines where required.

Cable selection and protection must be coordinated. The supplier’s offer should identify deviations from the project schedule rather than silently replacing a construction with a similarly named cable.

03Prepare the enquiry in installation lengths

List the required cut lengths, destination equipment, delivery sequence and drum restrictions. A total metre quantity is useful for pricing but may not show whether the delivered lengths can complete the planned circuits without additional joints.

Before you send an enquiry

  • Circuit identifier and DC/AC classification
  • Design voltage, current and equipment interfaces
  • Construction and installation requirements
  • Cut lengths, delivery lots and approved deviations
