QUICK ANSWER
These terms address different properties. Ask which test method and acceptance criteria support each claim for the exact cable.
01Separate the claimed properties
Low-smoke and halogen-related claims concern combustion products, while flame-retardant claims concern flame spread under specified tests. Neither statement by itself proves that an electrical circuit continues functioning during a fire.
02Define the required fire duty
Circuit-integrity testing evaluates a defined fire exposure and other specified conditions. The applicable test scope, cable dimensions, voltage and installation requirements matter. A generic “fireproof” phrase is not a complete technical specification.
03Make a compliance matrix
Ask the supplier to list each required property, test reference, offered construction and supporting document. Check whether documents actually cover the proposed size range and product family. Resolve deviations before approving production or substituting a material.
Before you send an enquiry
- List each property separately
- Specify the test references
- Check product coverage
- Approve deviations before ordering
